Gospel Concert
Friday 9th March 2018
A great night of music featuring Andrew Cornett and friends. There were 3 acts; a 'boy band' called Homeward Bounds (I'll explain this in in a minute), Colin Elliot a country gospel singer and the multi talented Qua family. Despite having rival events on the same evening we had a great turnout with a filled hall.
Kingdom Bound opened the evening and turned out to be 3 young fathers who sang some old favourite hymns and some new in mainly acapella, but with a guitar for beat and minimal accompaniment. It gave a fresh reminder of the hymns from childhood.
Next up was Colin Elliot who used a backing track from his band Live Issue and played live on guitar. One song he sang was about a rogue of a character called Jesse Taylor who turned to Jesus and was getting baptised in the song. The words described him going under the water for the last time (much to the relief of the locals!) and coming up a new man for Jesus.
The final act was, well, wow! A family consisting of mum, dad and 3 young girls. They sang an eclectic mix of modern songs with older hymns to new tunes. They had tin whistles, accordion, guitar, piano and violin. What amazed me was how the mum sang beautifully while playing the piano the whole time with her head nearly 180° to time her part in with the rest of the group. One old hymn she sang was Rock of Ages to a new tune and reintroduced the meaning of the words.
As a finale all the acts played together to round off the night. There's a few clips below to let you see what you missed.
Please excuse the quality as the clips were on an ancient phone from the very back of the hall.

A PRELUDE TO CHRISTMAS
Friday 17th November 2017
On a dark and chilly night there was a hint of the approaching Christmas season with the church and hall lit with rope lights.
The night began in the church with community singing and then the Dungannon Choral Society presented a Christmas themed programme. There were group pieces, a smaller choral group, solos and fantastic trumpet pieces. Ashley, our organist, was spotted in the back right looking mighty fine in his dickie bow.
There was a supper afterwards in the hall and a chance to chat, meet the singers and relax the vocal chords.
Video clip below was recorded on a phone from the rear of the church.
Please forgive the shake and bumpy zoom - new phone.
